Brown Rice, Basic

Creates warming energy, nourishes organs in middle part of the body, like stomach, spleen, pancreas.

  • 1 cup brown rice

  • 1 1/4 cups water

  • pinch of sea salt

  • nori or gomasio, minced parsley or other greens for garnish


  1. Wash rice and place it in pressure cooker

  2. Add water and salt

  3. Bring pressure cooker to full pressure

  4. Reduce flame to low and cook for 45 minutes

  5. Remove pot from the flame and let it cool naturally

  6. Serve in bowls sprinkled with garnish. 


  • If cooked in a regular pot use 2 to 3 cups of water per 1 cup of brown rice

  • add 1/2 cup cubed winter squash to 1 cup brown rice

  • add 1/3 cup aduki beans to 3/4 cup brown rice

  • add 1/4 cup pearled barley to 3/4 cup brown rice

  • add 1/4 weatberries  to 3/4 cup brown rice

  • add  1/4 millet  to 3/4 cup brown rice
