Dulse Salad

  • 1/2 cup dulse, soaked, sliced, and simmered 3 to 5 minutes (remove, quickly rinse, and drain)

  • 2 cups Chinese cabbage, shredded

  • 1/2 cup daikon, sliced into thin matchsticks

  • 1/3 tsp sea salt

  • 2 Tbsps black sesame seeds, roasted

  • 1 to 2 Tbsps orange juice


  1. Place the dulse, vegetables and sea salt in a mixing bowl and combine well.

  2. Next, place the salad mixture in a pickle press. Place the top on the press, screw the pressure plate down to apply pressure, let sit for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  3. Remove, squeeze out any excess liquid, and if too salty, rinse quickly under cold water before combining with the other ingredients.

  4. Place in a serving dish. Toss in roasted seeds and orange juice and serve.
